Fascinating Bug

This bug, this incredible and unusual bug took me for a surprise when I was out in the backyard. The long black body kept my eyes glued on it so I could snap the pictures. Anyone knows what it is?

I am not sure if it is a wasp or not as the tail of the long body is used to stabilize when it is landed. There was no way to come any closer as it can see my movement!

As you can tell, this bug can fly! I find it fascinating to watch and wonder about it identity at the same time. I described this on Google "black bug with long body" and found nothing remotely similar to this bug of mine!

I've seen these in my yard. I think it's a Stephanidae, aka crown wasp.

I have one like this, a stump stabber! Mine has colours, though! They are strange, but lay eggs with the long bit, the ovipositor.
